LD and SLD fiber-coupling

Our business focuses on optical fiber alignment. We specialize in fiber-coupling and packaging laser diodes (LD) and superluminescent diodes (SLD) in a TO-can.

While we can perform fiber coupling to various types of optical fibers, our expertise lies in the most challenging coupling to single-mode (SM) and polarization maintaning (PM) optical fibers with small core diameters. The beam at the output from FC/UPC or FC/APC connector is close to Gaussian that allows for high-quality beam collimation. It is also important to secure them in compact cases ensuring parameter stability under extreme external conditions. 

Our laser diode and SLD modules undergo thorough control at every stage of production. We prioritize cleanliness and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. The design of these fiber-coupled modules is rigorously tested in accordance with Telcordia GR-468-CORE standards to ensure reliability and performance.

Our fiber-coupled laser diode and SLD modules deliver high coupling efficiency with excellent thermal stability. For the modules without active thermal stabilization the performance is characterized by the front-to-rear tracking error (ER) = 10 log[P(T)/P(25°C)], where the temperature varies within a specific range (e.g., from -40°C to +85°C), while the monitor photodiode signal remains constant.

Through meticulous module design and optimized coupling optics, we achieve a typical tracking error (ER) of 0.3 dB (representing a coupling efficiency variation within ±7%) for telecom wavelengths over the temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. This outperforms the standard ER values of 0.8-1.0 dB (20%) typically found in commercial laser diode modules.

Technology

We also offer modules with active thermal stabilization with thermoelectrical cooler (TEC) and thermistor in 14-pins DIL, 14-pins BTF and compact coaxial cases. Please, find more information about our packages here.
